How many of us have labelled ourselves as not being very intelligent? Throughout our lives we most of us recieve education from schools. The teacher sat in the front of the classroom, the children sat behind thier desks in silence, listening to information being fed from the tutor? So what is learning? are some better at it than others? or do we simply have different ways of understanding? What might work for one may not nessasarely work for someone else. Throughout our society childrens education can in some cases be based soley on the childs ability within the subjects under the school’s syllabus. What happens to the children who may have other abilites to learn in none vocational subjects? Such as confidence in public places, rapport skills, persistance, and so on…… How are these precious skills channelled quickly? Ensuring that the child is fully supported and made aware of where these skills maybe used throughout his /her future. We all process information differently, and as human beings are all incredibly intelligent, look how we learn to speak, and the process to learn this amazing skill!
One of the tendancies we have is to label both ourselves and others based on our own belief’s. For example, if a child challenges a teacher, does this make him or her ‘bad’ or ‘rude’, maybe, however if used appropiately where else may this be useful? politics, negotations, law, the opportunity can go on and on… By applying a label to a person or ourselves, can suggest that we no longer have to deal with this unique person in creative ways, if they do not fit into our world then they are labelled as ‘cocky, or ‘a bit slow’. Imagine now how much more we could support both the future generation and our own, if we took the time to understand how that person operates in thier world, what makes sense to them.
Learning is a natural partof us, we cannot not learn, yet based on our coniditioning we continue to compare ourselves with others, try too hard, become scared of failure.
On my next blog I will be giving some strategies on learning skills.
Till next time.
